Us and them. Has it always been that way? Outsiders not welcome, not wanted. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the “us” included us all? Maybe this world and we humans will never be able to achieve that end. But I personally feel an obligation to do my part to try.
That is what my book for children “Same Kind Of Different As Me” is all about. Teaching young children that even though someone may look different, or be different in some way, they are also much alike. “As the tree is bent, so shall it grow.” My hope is that this lyrical, beautifully illustrated story can help young children see others in a more inclusive light.
